The call for ‘Telangana march’ here on September 30 by
the M. Kodandaram-led Joint action committee (JAC) has once again brought into
sharp focus the differences between the body and the Telangana Rashtra Samiti
(TRS) which has not yet extended its support to the programme.
The TRS had been non-committal on support preferring to
adopt a wait and watch policy though the JAC gave the call in the first week
of July. The situation is not likely to be any better till TRS president K.
Chandra sekhar Rao returns from his New Delhi trip on September 15.
In effect, it means that the organisers will hardly have
a week or ten days even if the TRS decides to extend support after discussions
on Mr. Rao’s return.
Agitations like this in the past had often kicked up
controversies between the TRS and the JAC over the timing.
It was no different when the ‘million march’ of JAC was
planned for March 10, 2010.
The TRS did not support the programme till the eleventh
hour as an Intermediate exam was scheduled that day. The party fell in line
with the agitation postponed to the afternoon.
The ‘Telangana march’ is faced with a similar situation
as the Ganesh immersion is scheduled on September 29 and the UN conference on
biodiversity on October 1. The marchis precariously sandwiched between two
major events.
A representative of the JAC said the programme would be
held at any cost ‘in view’ of the conference. The big question is how the TRS
will consider the schedule because the Ganesh immersion is likely to spill over
to September 30.
A lot will also depend on the political developments in
New Delhi with Mr. Rao camping there.
The TRS might not be inclined to support the march if Mr.Rao is convinced that the developments are positive a leader said.
Telangana
Political JAC Chairman Prof. Kodandaram has said that the State government
should not see the proposed ‘Telangana March’ on September 30 as a law and
order issue.
Addressing
the media at Telangana Film Chamber office here on Thursday after the JAC
meeting, Prof. Kodandaram said the JAC would urge Governor ESL Narasimhan to
allow the JAC’s Telangana March. He also said that the JAC would take up
programs to give wide publicity across all the Telangana districts to the
proposed Telangana March.
He
said several programs were designed to make the Telangana March a big success.
He said the JAC would launch a publicity campaign from September 9 from
Manikeshwari Nagar in Hyderabad. He said the JAC would organize a “Karimnagar
Kavathu” on September 16 in Karimnagar town. From September 10 to 15 the JAC
would conduct preparatory meetings from village level to district level for the
sake of Telangana March with a slogan “Intiko Manishi-Chetiko Jenda” and ‘Chalo
Hyderabad’. He said that the JAC would observe Telangana Merger Day on
September 17.
Making
it clear that the TJAC would not withdraw its proposed ‘Telangana March under
any circumstances. Prof. Kodandaram said that the JAC would take Telangana
United Front, Telangana Praja Front, students and several peoples’
organisations along with them to make Telangana March a big success.
