The Joint Action Committee of GHMC Workers Union and the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS)
Employees Union on Thursday announced that they would be participating in the ongoing mass general strike by the government employees demanding statehood to Telangana, from September 20 onwards.
“A decision whether or not to stall even essential works like garbage clearance, sweeping of roads, street lighting etc., from next week will depend on the call given by the Statewide Employees JAC,” declared GHMC staff union leaders — K. Ravi Kumar, G. Mallikarjun, D. Pradeep Kumar, and Vinay Kapoor.
A ‘maha dharna’ would also be organised at the head office on September 19 as a prelude to the mass strike.
The union leaders warned that if the Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA) was invoked in the municipal services, they would ensure that there was a complete halt to all activities.
