The state government resolution said: “The House, while rejecting the AP Reorganisation Bill, 2013, resolves to request the honourable President of India not to recommend the AP Reorganisation Bill, 2013, for introduction in the Parliament as the Bill seeks to bifurcate the state of Andhra Pradesh without any reason/basis and without arriving at a consensus, in utter disregard to the linguistic and cultural homogeneity and economic viability of both regions. The Bill also completely ignores the very basis of formation of state of Andhra Pradesh, the first linguistic state created in Independent India.”

Political observers in AP are seeing this as a major embarrassment to the Congress-led UPA government. However, according to Telangana leaders, regardless of the state’s rejection, the Parliament will vote on the Bill to create the new state of Telangana.
The sudden turn of events in the Assembly has disappointed the Telangana Rashtriya Samiti (TRS). Reacting to this development, TRS leaders said the move cannot stop the formation of Telangana. “The chief minister and Speaker have colluded and they are claiming that they have passed a resolution. This is a useless attempt. Nothing is going to happen by this. Telangana would not be stopped by this,” TRS chief K Chandrasekhara Rao said. He is confident that a separate Telangana state will come into existence in the next 15 days. “I am leaving for Delhi tomorrow and I will return with the confirmation of a Telangana state after 15 days,” he told the media.
