Rajamouli’s suicide For Telangana

Warangal: The death of Samala Rajamouli (46), who immolated himself for the cause of Telangana recently, has now put a question mark over the education of his children, besides casting a shadow on their very existence.

The deceased, an auto-rickshaw driver, belonged to Timmampet of Zaffarghad mandal in the district and migrated to Warangal town 12 years ago to provide a better future for his kids. By raising loans from various sources he bought a second hand auto-rickshaw.

According to family members, Rajamouli, who was an active participant in Telangana agitations, had taken part in the last rites of the MBA student L Bhojya Naik who also immolated himself for the T cause a day before the auto-drivers’ death. He was said to have been moved at the sad demise of Bhojya Naik.

When this correspondent visited the rented residence of the deceased auto driver at Kashibugga in the town, gloominess was written large on the faces of the family members.
Rajamouli’s son Sharath Chandra was studying B Tech third year at Ramappa Engineering College while his daughter Sririsha was a degree third year student at Padmavati Degree College. “I do not know how I can support the education of the children,” lamented their mother Lalitha.

Lalitha was able to earn about Rs. 1000 by rolling beedis to compliment the earnings of her husband, which varied from Rs. 4000 to 4500 per month. “Ours is a hand-to-mouth existence, now with my husband leaving us it is a total chaos in our life,” she said.

The parents and brothers of late Rajamouli were also not financially sound and there was no hope of any support from them. It might be noted that though the political leaders have visited and condoled the death, they failed to extend financial support.

A TDP leader E Pradeep Rao has given Rs 10000, local tahsilar gave Rs 5000 from a relief fund; the members of Telangana Auto-drivers Association had given Rs. 5000, Congress leader Rajarapu Pratap has given Rs. 2000 and a BJP leader V Sriramulu gave Rs 2000.
“Now I have to take a part-time work of running the auto-rickshaw as I am still a student and not equipped professionally,” said Sharath Chandra revealing his future plans to support his family.

He said that he was determined to take care of the family despite all odds. He explained that he had planned to pursue M Tech after completing B Tech. “For now that plan was abandoned and I have to focus on arranging marriage for my sister and other immediate needs,” he said.

Sirisha was appearing for her final examinations, while Sharath was expected to appear for his semester exams. The tenth day ceremony of Rajamouli was scheduled for April 4. Sharath said, “I appeal to all the youth and students in Telangana: Please do not commit suicides for Telangana. It yields nothing, except crushing your families.” The loss of the family head or a family member is irreplaceable. Please do not go give in to the political leader’s comments or their exhortations, they are all selfish.”

Laitha said, “Please tell all those who are out to kill themselves for Telangana, not to commit suicides and leave their families in agony.”

The suicides will not provide any solution. They will only serve the interests of the political leaders. No one will come to support your families.”
Please do not commit suicides. It yields nothing, except crushing your families.
- Sharath, Son of late Rajamouli
