Komatireddy Venkat Reddy begins Indefinite fast for Telangana

Nalgonda : Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, who resigned as Andhra Pradesh State Cabinet minister last month protesting the delay in formation of Telangana, began his indefinite fast in Nalgonda town in the presence of some party MPs from the region.  " I am ready to sacrifice my life for the cause of Telangana. There is no question of calling off the fast " he told a huge gathering. Venkat Reddy alleged that ministers from Telangana were the main hurdle in the formation of a separate state.

A huge stage was arranged for the hunger strike to accommodate political leaders. Hoardings were placed on both sides of the stage in support of the fast. Vehicular traffic was diverted to ease the traffic. Police made elaborate security arrangements for the hunger strike.

Sankaramma, mother of Srikanthachary who lost his life in the Telangana agitation, applied `tilak’ on Venkatreddy’s forehead before he commenced his fast.

MPs K Kesava Rao, Ponnam Prabhakar, G Vivekanand, Rajagopala Reddy, Gutta Sukhender Reddy, Manda Jagannadham, Siripuram Rajaiah, MLCs Yadava Reddy, Sridhar Reddy, former MP Indrakaran Reddy, MLA Chirumarthi Lingaiah expressed their support to Mr Venkatreddy.

Mr K Kesava Rao, addressing the meeting, said that the agitation for a separate Telangana State cannot be suppressed by the Government. He took objection to the arrest of the Congress leaders who had taken part in the rail – roko programme and also for booking of cases against them.

Mr Prabhakar demanded the Congress High Command that the latter has to stick to its declaration of December 9, 2009. He warned Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal for his provocative statements. He threatened that he would cut the tongue of Mr Rajagopal.

Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy observed that more than 10 lakh employees participated in the general strike for over 40 days.But he regretted that the agitation could not move the Centre to take a decision in favour of Telangana.

Komatireddy Venkatreddy, in his address, said that leaders from Andhra region earlier obstructed the efforts for a separate Telangana state earlier. But in the present situation, leaders from Telangana region are acting as stumbling blocks for the movement.

He took objection to for the Ministers from Telangana region sticking to their posts despite the large-scale agitations across the region.
Political leaders, employees’ Associations, lawyers and people’s organizations expressed their support to the fast. TNGOs president Swamy Goud and several others also gave their backing to the fasting leader.
