Medical JAC threatens to stop emergency services

22nd Sep, 2011: Medical services in the Telangana region are likely to be hit further, with doctors from the region now deciding to join the "Sakala Janula Samme" (the "people's strike") from Friday onwards, demanding separate statehood for Telangana.

The doctors have decided to boycott family planning services from 23 September.

However, the Telangana Doctor's JAC leaders stated that doctors would attend to emergency services in the hospitals, on humanitarian grounds. These emergency services would be attended to only for 2 hours daily.

Medical JAC leader Dr Mohan Rao demanded that all Congress legislators and ministers resign from their posts in support of the separate Telangana and join the people’s movement. He sought the TDP legislators to get their resignations accepted.

A delegation of TD-JAC leaders led by Dr. Ramesh met the Health Department Principal Secretary Kishore at the state Secretariat in Hyderabad on Thursday, and served the strike notice.
